Project mάzoksi, collects and recreates Greek rebetika songs. Instigated by singer Zoe Katsilerou and composer, percussionist Eilon Morris, the project launched in June 2020 with Misirlou, a folk song from the Eastern Mediterranean region, with origins in the Ottoman Empire. The earliest known recording of the song is a 1927 rebetiko/tsifteteli composition by Theodotos (“Tetos”) Demetriades. You can find some of our tracks bellow.
