Upcoming Workshops

Over the last ten years, Eilon has facilitated workshops and masterclasses internationally at Universities, Drama Schools, Conservatoires and Cultural Centres. Through play, investigation, improvisation and devising, these workshops open out the rich potentials of rhythm in movement, language and sound for actors, dancers, musicians and other practitioners.

“I think Eilon’s workshops are really wonderful. He has a very refreshing approach to creativity, play and theatre-making. The environment was one that really helped me let go of judgement or notions of competition with myself or with other people, or success or failure. It was a really ego-free environment.  And that’s not to say it wasn’t challenging. It was definitely very challenging in a brilliant way.  In Eilon’s workshops I not only had a lot of fun and learnt new skills, but from working with him I also have a better understanding of how I create as an artist. I think there’s a lot of personal and transferable growth I have taken from working with him. I can thoroughly recommend going to one of Eilon’s workshops.”

ORBITS

28th June – 2nd July Au Brana Centre, S.W. France

Over these five-days participants will work through rhythmic principles, exercises and games, cultivating greater clarity in their listening, expression and presence, while deepening their own rhythmic awareness and capacity. The main theme for this week will be cycles.

At the heart of performance we encounter cycles of time and space; the repeated phrases of breaths, pulsation, steps, gestures and forms. These rhythms connect performers and audiences and form the basis of ensemble listening. Some cycles offer us a sense of renewal and creativity, others evoke drudgery or a sense of limitation. A core skill of performance resides in the ways we navigate, create, disrupt and resolve these patterns.

In this workshop we will work with cycles of movement and sound, exploring their potentials as tools in performance and training. Participants will learn how to draw on, as well as break out of, cyclic patterns; working with cycles as a way to build awareness of pulse and form a greater sense of simultaneity within ensemble and solo work.

This work session will draw strongly on the practice of ‘Orbits’, a training form developed by Eilon Morris and discussed in his recent book, Rhythm in Acting and Performance. These practices are applicable to practitioners of all backgrounds and disciplines, including actors, dancers, musicians and educators, drawing on fundamental principles of rhythm to create an experience that is at once accessible and personally challenging.

The cost of the session is €350 which includes accommodation and food. All meals will be prepared on site by the participants, working on a roster system and aided by the Au Brana team, using produce sourced in the local farmer’s markets. Participants will need to fill in an application form and pay a €100 deposit by May 1st to secure a place.

Participants are responsible for their own travel arrangements and need to arrive 27th June and depart 3rd July, more detailed information for booking travel is provided upon receipt of application.

If you wish to participate in the OBRA residency in September there is a discount of €50 off the cost of the 2 work sessions.
